Abercrombie Co. is founded by David Abercrombie as an outdoor specialty retailer, carrying high quality camping, fishing and hunting gear.

1904

Abercrombie Co. becomes Abercrombie & Fitch when Ezra Fitch joins as a partner. The store dresses America’s notable visionaries and leaders, like President Theodore Roosevelt, William Taft, Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart.

1940’s

Abercrombie supplies military equipment, making uniforms for all branches, including for both men and women.

1950’s & 60’s

1950’s & 60’s

Abercrombie expands its line of items, continuing to supply a new generation of Presidents like Eisenhower and Kennedy, and adventuring into more markets.

Oshman’s Sporting Goods of Houston, Texas purchases the A&F brand. 

1988

The Limited purchases A&F from Oshman’s transitioning the company to Columbus, Ohio and a new vision emerges for the brand.

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. becomes a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker ANF.

Building on its success, Abercrombie & Fitch Co. spins off from The Limited and launches the abercrombie kids brand.

Hollister Co., a new brand focused on the optimistic, laidback California lifestyle, is launched.

Abercrombie & Fitch begins its international expansion in Europe, followed by Hollister store openings in the region in 2008. The company’s expansion in to the APAC region begins in 2009.

The Abercrombie & Fitch brand celebrates its 125th anniversary and opens a new store prototype for the first time in more than 15 years.

A&F Co. exceeds $1 billion in annual digital sales for the first time in its history.
